Incident: Ronkonkoma Apartment Complex Fire
Location: 500 Peconic St., Ronkonkoma
Date/Time: Sunday, March 17, 2019 at approximately 12:50 a.m.
 
 

Suffolk County Police Arson Section detectives are investigating a fire that occurred at an apartment complex in Ronkonkoma early this morning.

 

Fifth Precinct officers responded to a 911 report of a fire at Colony Park Apartments, located at 500 Peconic St., at approximately 12:50 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the building fully engulfed.

 

Prior to the officers’ arrival, a mother dropped her infant child from a second floor balcony into the arms of a bystander below, before jumping to the ground herself. The mother and infant were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. One adult male was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue with minor injuries. There were no other reported injuries.

 

Five units in the complex have been deemed uninhabitable. The investigation is continuing.
