Incident: Sex Offender Arrested for Failing to Register Internet Accounts

Date/Time: Thursday, March 5, 2020 at approximately 7:40 a.m.

Suffolk County Police today arrested a sex offender after he failed to register four Internet accounts.


Acting on information from the New York State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, detectives from the Suffolk County Police Computer Crimes Unit, Special Victims Section, along with Third Precinct police officers executed a search warrant at 55 Andrew Ave. in Islip Terrace and arrested Yobani Diaz, a resident of the home.  


Diaz, 40, a Level 1 sex offender, failed to register two email accounts and two social media accounts. Registration of his Internet accounts is required due to his status as a registered sex offender. He was charged with four counts for Sex Offender Register Registration Violation, a class E Felony under New York State Correction Law. Suffolk County Probation charged him with Violation of Probation. More charges are expected. 


Diaz will be held overnight at the 7th Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 6.


During the execution of the search warrant, investigators also seized photo albums and electronic devices. The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Computer Crimes Unit at 631-852-6279.
