Incident: Good Samaritan Rescues Woman Who Drove Vehicle into Bay
Location: Patchogue Bay, off South Ocean Avenue, Patchogue
Date/Time: Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at approximately 10:10 p.m.

Suffolk County Police responded to Patchogue Bay after a woman drove her car into the water last night.

Mia Samolinski was driving a Subaru Outback in a parking lot off South Ocean Avenue, adjacent to Patchogue Bay, when she stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake and drove into the water at approximately 10:10 p.m.

A Good Samaritan, Anthony Zhongor, witnessed the incident and dove into the water. Zhongor was able to open the driver’s side door of the Suburu, help Samolinski out of the vehicle and assist her safely to the dock.

Samolinski, 18, and Zhongor, 17, both of Patchogue, were not injured. The car was pulled from the bay by a heavy duty wrecker.
