Location: In front of 15 Bart Drive, Selden
Date/Time: Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at approximately 5:10 p.m.

Suffolk County Police today arrested a man after he critically injured a man in a hit-and-run crash in Blue Point last month.

Following a month-long investigation by Fifth Squad detectives, it was determined Robert Xavier was driving the 2010 Lincoln Navigator that struck Frannie Columbine, 76, of Blue Point, who was riding a bicycle northbound on Blue Point Avenue just before 12 p.m. on April 6. Xavier was making a left-hand turn from Blue Point Avenue onto Middle Road when he struck Columbine before fleeing the scene. Columbine was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition. He is recovering from his injuries.

Xavier, 36, of 15 Bart Drive in Selden, was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Physical Injury. He was given a Desk Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned on May 22 at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
