Incident: Man Arrested for DWI after Crashing Into Building
Location: 121 Carleton Avenue, Central Islip, New York
Date/Time: Sunday, February 4, 2018 at approximately 1:18 a.m

Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for driving while intoxicated after he crashed his vehicle into a building in Central Islip and fled the scene.


Ronald Rivera was in the driver’s seat of a 2002 Toyota mini-van parked in front of 7-Eleven, located at 121 Carleton Ave., when he accidentally put the vehicle into drive and crashed into the front of the building. Rivera left the scene on foot. He was apprehended nearby a short time later by Third Precinct Patrol officers.


Rivera, 23, of 30 Beech St., Central Islip, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage. He was also issued a summons for driving without a license. No one was injured in the crash. The front windows of the store were broken. A Town of Islip Building Inspector determined there was no structural damage to the building.


Rivera is being held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned in the morning at First District Court in Central Islip.


A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
